Here's what we started with:
Here's what it translated to for me:
My sketches are usually messy, so I broke it down for you to see my process.
Boxes, ovals, triangles, circles, and tubes are your best friends. You can use them to draw anything and make them to simplify bodies. Semi-circles work for arm and leg placement. If the legs aren't in the pose you intended, you can move the box around.
*There should be joints in between the two red tubes making up the arms and on the wrist and ankles, but it's a chibi so I missed it. My bad.
Once you place the shapes everything should connect. Just keep in mind that you are working with 3D shapes. If you view it that way it becomes easier to visualize where parts of the body hidden from view are supposed to go (or if they should be in view in the first place). It also makes it easier to twist and bend.
If you wanted to move the head, you'd get:
And that would become:
The head is slightly bigger than I meant for it to be but I lost my pen when I started this (found my pen and fixed it). Clothes can be hard but the only thing I really did here was follow the already drawn outline and add a few bumps and small wrinkles/ folds. The bracelets and belt wrap around Susie's wrists and waist. Your sketches don't have to be perfect. ALL of mine look like scribbles up until the second follow up. The second sketch is were I put the 3D shapes as the first sketch is just an idea. I'm still learning myself. If you find that boxes are hard to rotate, start here. Good luck!
